Venues throughout England are waiting to see if they will be selected to host fixtures for the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup.
The successful win was announced yesterday, as England fought off rival bids from South Africa and Italy. Stadia in Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Coventry, Southampton and London are to be considered.
“The venues and fixtures will be decided over the next 12 to 18 months, with visits taking place to see what is on offer,” a spokesperson from the International Rugby Board tells conference-news.co.uk
With the Olympics in three years and a potential football World Cup arriving in 2018, England’s reputation as a sporting host destination grows stronger.
“It’s fantastic for the country as a whole,” says the Emirates Stadium’s, Dan Tolhurst. “We are delighted to be one of the venues included for consideration and are sure our experience of hosting varied and high profile events will stand us in good stead.”
