Emiratis train at Excel

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company has sent its first local Emirati staff on phase one of a work experience programme at its Excel London venue.

Three Emiratis recently embarked on the junior management training and orientation programme at Excel London for two months.

The programme was designed to enable them to gain practical experience from Excel’s business discipline and operations, and allow them to implement what they have learned in fields such as project management, and venue logistics and operations upon their return to the ADNEC centre in Abu Dhabi.

ADNEC’s director of finance and human resources Humaid Al Dhaheri says: “This pioneering initiative reflects the vision of ADNEC’s chairman, H.E Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, to educate, train and employ UAE Nationals in different business sectors. We intend to engage in unique Emirati development strategies that not only meet our corporate needs but complement the goals of the Abu Dhabi Government as well. The positive feedback from Excel London and from the participants has motivated us to invest in additional orientation programmes and similar activities in the future.”

ADNEC acquired Excel London in an AED 2.3 billion (approximately £380m) deal in 2008, advancing its goal of creating a global network of exhibition centres.
