WorldEvents reports leap in profit and turnover

Yorkshire-based international event agency WorldEvents™ Group, whose clients include Deloitte, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oreal, has announced an operating profit of £1.3m on turnover of £30.3m in its 2008 results.

Group turnover increased by 43 per cent, from £21.1m in 2007, the company says, as a result of increasing business from existing clients and global new client wins during the year. Underlying operating profit, excluding first year investment in setting up an Amsterdam office with 10 staff, increased by 30 per cent from £1.0m in 2007, the company reports.

The group has increased its staff by 20 per cent across all offices.

WorldEvents picked up 11 major awards in the last year including ‘2009 Agency of the Year’ at the Eventia International Awards in London and the IMEX Commitment to the Community Award for a second consecutive year.

The agency has also invested in delegate management and marketing communications software system.

MD Martin Parry says he is pleased with the numbers, “which have again achieved our targets and demonstrate our capacity to deliver consistent profits in a highly competitive market. The strength of the group as a whole is reflected in the growing list of blue chip clients and the recognition through awards of the high quality events we deliver on their behalf”

Executive chairman, Graham Keene did sound a note of caution, however: “Naturally, we are cautious about the potential impact of the current economic climate on our business in the short term, however we remain optimistic that, by investing in our staff, our global offer and our technology, we will ensure that WorldEvents™ is one of the strongest agencies post the current tough trading conditions”.
