Kennedy steps down, Cotton moves in

Following the departure of Paul Kennedy, MBE, from Reed Travel Exhibitions, the former MD of conferences and events at Excel London, Vanessa Cotton, is to become non executive chairman to the company’s meetings and events portfolio.

Kennedy who has held the post of group exhibition director since November 2004, says the time has come for a “break from the amazingly fast-paced environment involving almost constant overseas travel.”

“Frankly I want to take some time out, re-energise and decide what I want to do next,” adds Kennedy.

Kennedy and his team re-engineered EIBTM following its relocation to Barcelona, launched GIBTM in Abu Dhabi, restructured and re-launched CIBTM in Beijing and oversaw the continuing development of AIME in Melbourne, the ICCA Congress exhibition and created the foundation for a launch of AIBTM.

Vanessa Cotton meanwhile, has been appointed as a non executive chair to the meetings and events portfolio at RTE to provide “support, counsel, and advice to the meetings portfolio team” and to assist with the process of finding a successor to Kennedy.

Commenting on her appointment, Cotton says: “This is a fantastic opportunity to become involved with Reed Exhibitions and I look forward to working with the team to ensure that their meetings’ industry events worldwide continue to lead the field.”

Cotton left Excel London after almost four years in the role last July.
