While there are many reports of corporate hospitality taking a battering at various big events, industry caterer Sodexo Prestige reports champagne sales at the Chelsea Flower Show were up 30 per cent on last year.
While the Charity Previous Gala Evening alone saw 1,200 dinners served to guests, over the course of the week-long show for the Royal Horticultural Society, Sodexo’s team reports cash sales rose by four per cent this year.
Some outlets did even better: following its launch last year, the Loch Fyne restaurant saw sales increase by 19 per cent. Sodexo reports visitors to the show consumed 18,000 sandwiches, 680 Cromer crabs, 46,500 glasses of Pimm’s and 8,000 bottles of wine.
Event director for Sodexo Prestige Sue Creed, says: “We are very pleased with sales at this year’s show. To ensure we maintain the high standards of catering the mystery shopper programme was of vital importance and we are pleased that the average score received over the week was 83 per cent, an increase of four per cent on last year.”
