All change at Eventia

Trade body Eventia has elected a new chair and vice-chair to lead the association over the next 12 months.

An AGM held at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London, Mark Taylor, head of events agency BI Worldwide, was announced as the new chair. Vice-chair will be Mark Saxby, sales and marketing director at agency World Events.

Taylor says: “Over the last few years we have seen Eventia’s position as the voice for the events industry gain significant prominence with our merger with the British Association of Conference Destinations, just one of the logical steps we have taken.

“We have many challenges in the current economic climate and it is imperative that Eventia offers a visibility as well as a voice for the industry. We want to achieve many things such as: a wider range of membership including more production companies and venues; target the corporate and association markets for membership; offer greater networking and education opportunities; and continue to offer best advice in the new legislation that is planned.”

The AGM witnessed several further changes to the Eventia Board. Standing down from the board were: Jonathan Cohen, marketing manager of Conference and Incentive Travel, VisitDenmark; Gary England, director of sales and marketing, Ascot Hospitality; Clive Tyers, head of conferences and exhibitions, Bournemouth International Centre and John Walker, managing director, Oxford International.

Rob Allen, chief executive, TRO, Hamish Reid, general manager, Jersey Conference Bureau; Aileen Reuter, director, Marketing, Grass Roots and Matt Storey, head of business development, Gallowglass, were re-elected to the board.
