The Radisson Blu, a new hotel set to be ‘the biggest and tallest hotel in Cardiff’, will offer event organisers a discount of at least 10 per cent when it opens in June.
The Rezidor Group-owned hotel is the 23rd member of The Cardiff Commitment; an initiative forged last month between Cardiff & Co, the Millennium Stadium and the Cardiff Hoteliers Association. All members of the initiative offer the favourable rate for event organisers, as well as setting aside 20 per cent of their rooms at a reduced cost for major events.
The Cardiff Commitment seeks to boost the city’s UK standing for major events by offering a package of services aimed at attracting all those involved in the exhibition and conference industry.
The hotel, located directly opposite the St David’s 2 shopping development and John Lewis store is a 21-storey contemporary glass and metal building with 215 guest rooms offering views over the city and Cardiff Bay. Sixty of these rooms will be business class and 12 will be junior suites located on the top four floors. At launch the hotel will offer meetings and events facilities able to cater for more than 300 people.
Building owner Imperial Property acquired the site almost three years ago. “After developing an affinity with Cardiff through other projects we have worked on there, we always believed there was opportunity for a good upscale hotel in the city centre,” said commercial director David Glover, adding that the city centre has “come on leaps and bounds” in the last few years.
