R3 Events is gearing up for the second in its series of events on how companies of all sizes in the meetings industry can get in a position to win business as a result of the London Olympics in 2012.

The conference, in conjunction with Mash Media, is to take place at Indig02 between 2 and 3 June.

It has the support of BusinessWeek, Visit London and Visit Britain as well as a number of associations including MPI, TESA, NOEA, ESSA and ISES.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games has also shown its support and its brand protection lawyer, David Powell, will be giving a talk at the event.

Ruth Clougherty who has produced the conference is delighted with the interest in the subject. “It’s been great to chat with potential speakers and attendees about what they plan to do to try to get a slice of the action.

“We will have some great case studies at the event from companies such as Definitive Events who hosted clients at the Beijing Olympics, and Portland Spa who have positioned themselves perfectly to benefit from the sailing in 2012″.

“Although some companies appear to have their act together there are many well known companies who still don’t appear to have a plan yet. Everyone I have spoken to seems to be interested in getting involved but there is a distinct lack of knowledge about what opportunities there are out there and how you can get your name in the frame to win some business.”

As well as educational the conference will be a networking opportunity and there is a small exhibition area where delegates will mingle over lunch and between sessions. Exhibitors include: Nimlok, BAF Graphics, Kinet-X, Limeblue, CompteFor, Create and Purple Audio.

There will also be a sports quiz and drinks in the late afternoon of day one, and a tour of the Olympic Park (in luxury buses) on the second day.

Clougherty adds: “In the current climate there are not too many opportunities for smaller companies to enjoy themselves with industry colleagues and look forward with excitement to what lies ahead so this event at the IndigO2 will be a refreshing change.”
