New VisitBritain website switches on the floodlights

VisitBritain, the British national tourist agency, is launching a new promotional website for the events travel industry.

The website, which comes at a challenging time for the business travel market, has been created to raise the UK’s profile as destination of choice for business, cultural and sporting events and offer tips to foreign investors looking to stage their events in the UK.

The website includes, among other services, a film titled ‘Britain for Events’, showcasing the variety of UK events that contribute to the country’s £114 billion visitor economy. The film focuses on the UK’s record of winning and hosting global events, as well as guiding bidding organisations through the process of bidding for, or marketing, events and shows how eventBritain, a subdivision of VisitBritian, can support a proposal through each stage of the process. The film is also available in DVD format.

It is hoped to engage markets looking to take advantage of the favourable exchange rate and host an event in Britain, with tips such as saving money on the Oyster card and BritRail pass by purchasing them in their own currency.

VisitBritain’s head of business visits and events Joss Croft said: “At a time when business tourism is facing tough challenges, it is important that we provide support to UK partner bidding organisations and reiterate our dedication to help our partners win more global business for Britain, edging out rival destinations. It’s time to switch on the floodlights and celebrate the things that make us an extraordinary host destination.”

The site also offers links to VisitBritain’s 35 overseas offices, as well as giving visitors ability to commission tailored research and advice on using the Britain brand, including leveraging the 2012 Olympics opportunity.
