Edinburgh to get £6m boost

Edinburgh Convention Bureau (ECB) claims to be receiving events enquires at levels comparable to this time last year.

The ECB announces that 14 new events have been secured and will be staged in Edinburgh between 2009 and 2013, bringing the city a sizeable business tourism income of £6.2 million.

This forward diary of events will bring 3,700 high spending delegates to the city.

Chief executive of ECB, Sue Stuart, says: “Business tourism is a highly competitive international industry and we have to work extremely hard to maintain our level of enquiries and convert them into bookings. There is no room for complacency, particularly in the current climate.”

In recent years, Edinburgh has been second only to London as the most popular conference destination in the UK.
